Bedford and Tyler Next Up on MACS Schedule

Mid-July for the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series has two back-to-back events totaling $61,000 in prize money at Bedford Speedway, Bedford, PA and Tyler County Speedway, Middlebourne, WV, of Friday and Saturday, July 14th & 15th respectively.

DKM, Inc. greets the Series on Friday, July 14th for the first MACS visit after a four year hiatus. J.R. Kiefer heads the promotional effort at this big 1/2 mile, semi-high-banked oval residing in the Laurel Mountains. Bedford provides high speed thrills and excitement as DMK has posted a $5,000 winner’s purse from the $30,500 up for grabs.

Kiefer and company continue to restore Bedford to a power-house of weekly racing action. The Series has presented 10 events over the last decade at the Speedway with an average count of 39 per show. Current MACS Series point leader, Gary Stuhler leads the way with four wins. Also collecting wins were Todd Andrews, carrying the Series top win total; Roy Deese, Jr.; Lynn Geisler, Series ’99 & ’00 Champion; Scott Haus; Tom Myers, and Jack Pencil, Series 2002 Champion.

Bedford harbors some of Central Pennsylvania’s hottest Friday night Late Model drivers including current point leader Chris Harr; WRISCO Aluminum MACS ROY leader, Nick Dickson; Scott Rhodes; Wayne Johnson; Andy Martz; Steve Campbell; Chuck Clise; D.J. Troutman; Jeff Rine; Rodney Sweitzer; Haus; Eric Zembower; and Larry Wright.

Saturday, July 15, marks the return of the Series for its third visit and the first under BDS Racing Promotions at Middlebourne, WV, Tyler County Speedway. This is the annual Eaton/Childers “King of the Ring 50” paying $5,000 to-win from the $30,500 purse. In the two previous Series stints at Tyler the average car count has been 49 with “Mountaineer” pilots Gary Dalton and Paul Wilmoth, Jr. taking home the victories.

Tyler County is a high banked, ¼ mile speedplant affectionately called the “Bull Ring” because of the tight quarters the competitors have to wrangle their 2200 pound bucking Brahmas around. The track provides a thrill a minute for the fans as well as the drivers.

Current TCS point leader Steve Weigle leads the local contingent along with Greg Baumburger; Mike Benedum; Wilmoth, Jr. Sonny Conley; Bobby Hill; Donnie Dotson; Jared Hawkins; Robbie Scott and David Gorrell.

Each MACS event will consist of AFCO Racing Products “Shock the Clock” time trials presented by Sue Stevenson Photography, Malcuit Racing Engines “Dash King” competition presented by Wild Side Custom Racing Trailers; heats are presented by Bud Watson’s W&W Racing Supply/Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic and Hoosier Racing Tires; Lias Tire Racing Division/American Racer; Dave Poske Performance Parts and Rocket Chassis; ATL Fuel Cells and BERT Transmission; Mason Racin’ and GRT Chassis; Frankland Racing Supply and American Die Cast; King’s Jewelry/Artcarved; Pietragallo, Bosick & Gordon, LLC, Attorney’s at Law and Design 500 Racewear; and the Sunoco Race Fuels 1st B Main presented by Bazell Oil as well as the Warrior Race Cars 2nd B Main presented by Goddard Performance Parts. Additionally, the WRISCO Aluminum MACS ROY chase will determine the ROY title. Other sponsors included Simpson Racing and Country Candles. The A Main ASI “Hard Charger” will receive a $100 Gift certificate from ASI Sportswear.

Chase Decals is providing a $100 gift certificate per event for the “Hard Luck” Award. Impact Graphics will be providing $100 gift certificate for the “Quick Time Award” and if that same driver that sets fast time is able to win that night’s feature s/he will earn an additional $100 gift certificate. Chase, Impact, Duralite Wheels, ACPT Carbon Fiber Drive Shafts, Ron “Flea” Fleenor’s Custom Helmet Art will all provide special prizes and gifts to selected drivers in the final driver top ten of points.
