The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series is eagerly awaiting their presentation of the 27th Annual USA 100TM at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, Saluda, VA, on Saturday, August 19th. This $65,000 one day show has moved to VMS this year for the first time with the blessing of the event originator Ernie Shelton, President of Tylerco Group, USA, LLC, and Racing America Newspaper. The Sawyer family is proud to be an integral part of the historic event by providing one of the crown jewel facilities in short-track dirt late model. In another first, it is the first time the event has been sanctioned by any organization and it the first year for it to fly under the MACS command.
The “100” dates back to 1977 when Mr. Shelton, whose racing biography includes induction into the West Virginia Motorsports Hall of Fame, as well as involvement in the sport spanning nearly 35 years, at all levels from NASCAR ® to the local bull rings. Shelton indicated “[I feel] it is time to take the USA 100TM to the next level with a major Sanctioning body and I am thrilled the event is under the MACS SERIES BANNER for 2006. He continued, “The MACS SERIES is so well structured, with the Geesey’s and their staff, and they are certainly going to continue to move upward among Dirt Late Model sanctions with their outstanding organization”.
Bill Sawyer indicated his sentiments, “We are pleased to be brining this event to Virginia Motor Speedway. I believe Clarke and his staff can provide the home as well as facility for this event to once again rise to the prominence that it once held. With the Geesey brother’s organization as well as the history of this event we are certainly proud to have the opportunity to showcase our facility with such a time honored race.
Shelton interjected about this trademarked event moving VMS, “Excitement, that’s what I can say about the 27th USA 100TM being run in 2006 at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway. At VMS you have a state of the art facility that is one of the best in the nation. Bill Sawyer’s ownership of the venue, and his staff including his nephew Clarke, serving as the General Manager, is without any doubt second to none in the industry. Taking the USA 100TM to a venue such as VMS is a perfect marriage for race fans to mark on their calendar as a must see race”, Shelton concluded.
Clarke Sawyer, General Manager indicated, “If you look at the past winner’s of this event, it is a who’s-who among dirt late model racing. We are confident that between the MACS Series, VMS, and Mr. Shelton we can all help restore the luster to the USA 100 TM. We couldn’t be more pleased to be involved with Jeff, Andy and Matt as they bring their Series to our facility. We are equally excited about the purse being offered, it is a tremendous one day show”, summarized Sawyer.
