The history of the Big Kahuna dates back to 2001 with Steve Francis taking home the $7,500 MACS sanctioned inaugural win of the three night show. The MACS event drew 77 cars from 13 states. The next night that year was sanctioned by the former Renegade Series paying $10,000 to-win and was won by Todd Andrews. The third and final night that year was sanctioned by UDTRA and paid $15,000 to-win with the big winner being Steve Shaver.

In 2002 the Big Kahuna was trimmed to two nights and Rick Eckert won the opening $10,000 to-win program under the former Renegade banner while Shaver scored another $15,000 victory once again topping the UDTRA event.

Then in 2003 the event went non-sanctioned for the first time and Travis Dillman captured that show and his richest pay day ever at $10,000. The Big Kahuna IV was won by Davey Johnson while last years version was captured by Mark Banal. Each of those drivers earned a cool 10G’s.
