In addition to honoring the top ten drivers for the 2006 race season Series representatives recognized the MACS JRC Checkin’ Out Reading Club Winner, nine year old Racheal Caretti from Weedville, PA for her reading achievements.
For those not familiar with the MACS kids' reading club it is designed to encourage children and their families to read regularly to improve reading fluency, decoding skills, vocabulary development and comprehension. The Series recognizes the worth of being fluent readers and the impact reading has on our daily lives. With this program the Series officials hope an alliance of reading and motorsports will prompt kids to increase their time spent reading. Previous winners include Amanda Darke, Meadville, PA and Aaron Zufall Gibsonia, PA.
With the support of her parents Jane and Arnie, Rachael earned the top prize of a 2006 Dell Laptop computer furnished by Barry Klinedinst car owner of MACS champion Jason Covert. Rachael’s statistics are quite impressive and include a total of 18,050 pages read. This is equivalent to reading 8449 minutes or 140 hours and 49 minutes. This translates to 3.5/ 40 hour weeks of reading. Rachael submitted completed reading forms to the Series office for the months of January through November.
In addition to Rachael’s prize a second place prize of a $100 gift certificate from Circuit City will be awarded to Ryan VanSickle, formerly of Morgantown WV, now residing in Indiana, PA.
