Covert to defend MACS crown in 2007

York Haven, PA; After a solid 2006 season that saw Jason Covert claim the Mid Atlantic Championship Series crown the 36 year old Nuclear Power Plant worker is quick to say what his 2007 plans are. “We’re going to race with the MACS tour again. The Geesey Brothers run a great series with good purses and do things the right way and you know what to expect when you get there”, said Covert.

In what was his fourth season behind the wheel of a Super Late Model and first season with a new team, Covert was tabbed as the driver for Barry Klinedinst’s 43A Rocket. “When we started the season we started out running the MACS races as a way to help me with time trials. Prior to 2006 I had hardly any time trial experience. After the first few races we found ourselves in a good position and we decided to make a run at the title and see what happened”, he said. What Covert and Klinedinst did was to win one MACS race at Hesston, PA and four other races including “The King of the Knob” at Roaring Knob Speedway. That and win a very close points battle with 2005 MACS champ Mike Balzano.

Covert had this to say about the 2006 points battle. “We learned so much racing with Mike. After all he was winning races and championships before I started racing 4 Cylinders. When it came down to Cumberland the last race weekend, our time trials, heats and our finishes, Mike and I were right there together. It was that close”.

The rest of his 2007 schedule will be set around the MACS schedule. “The Geesey’s have been good to me and I want to support the Series. We’ve (Barry & I) discussed our schedule, we haven’t ironed it out yet but we’ll get it on the website for our fans soon as we know what it will be other than the MACS events”, said Covert. Covert will attempt to become the first back to back champion since Lynn Geisler did it in 1999 and 2000. He will also be getting some consulting help from Robbie Allen Enterprises and Rick Eckert Racing.

Covert is sponsored and supported by the following; Pre-Mach, Inc., Red Wing Shoes, Hershey’s Racing Engines, Rocket Chassis, Baker Carburetion, Bam’s Auto Center, Kuppy’s Diner, Dennis Eberly Building & Remodeling, Rick Kaylor Jr. Computer Consulting.
