Parkersburg, WV; Mike Balzano will be trying to recapture the Mid Atlantic Championship Series in 2007. The 42 year old Parkersburg, West Virginia driver will use a week of racing next month at Florida’s Volusia Speedway Park competing in UMP and World of Outlaws events there next month. “We’ll start the year out in Florida and hopefully we’ll have some luck down there. Then we’ll come home, regroup and get ready for the start of the MACS tour in April”, he said.
Balzano was series Champion in 2005 and ended up second and a thrilling point’s battle that wasn’t decided until the Series final event that saw Jason Covert edged out Balzano for the Title. “We won it in 05 and maybe we relaxed a little last year and came up a little short. I feel I’ve something to prove in 2007”, stated Balzano.
Balzano cited the MACS tours scheduling and closeness as to some of his reasons for following the tour again. “I’ve supported the tour the last two seasons and the tour has been good to me. The schedule as far as the number of races and the limited amount of travel are factors as well as solid purses and a good point fund at the end of the season”.
Balzano has three other Championships in his resume backing up his MACS title; he was the 1987 All Star Circuit of Champions Champ as well taking two STARS crowns in 1989 and 1990. “We want another Championship this year and that will be our goal, and when we’re not racing a series event we’ll be out racing with the Outlaws, UMP, Lucas Series or the Independent Racing Series. “This way all of our fans will know where we’ll be racing at”, he said.
Balzano will once again be racing a Rocket Chassis’ Monte Carlo with Cornett Engines building the power plants, with sponsorship from Polino Contractors and Eddie’s Auto Parts, Hooiser Racing Tires and Turbo Blue Racing Fuel.
