The Mid-Atlantic Championship Series has yet another driver committing for the 2007 season. Jack Pencil, Bedford, PA, and his race team are eagerly preparing for yet another run at the MACS title this season. Pencil has participated twice previously running the full schedule. He won the Championship in 2002 and finishing a solid 5th last year. Jack, his dad, and crew chief Ben Foor are hard at work getting his stable of Rocket GTO’s ready.
Pencil lamented, "We are real excited to be running with the MACS Series again this year. Last year the second half of the season did not go well, but I am looking forward to getting back "in the hunt" for another championship. We are returning to our original color scheme this year so the car will look a little different than the past few years.”
Jeff Geesey, Series PR Director, commented, “Having Jack and his entire crew as a part of our slate of drivers competing for the championship is a plus. They are a well prepared team and now have with the experience competing at several tracks that they had not seen before last year. With a book (set-ups) on places it will make their quest for the crown a viable possibility,” concluded Geesey.
Pencil, and 8th Grade Algebra teacher in the Bedford School district, added, “One car is about 90% complete; we are getting another frame from Rocket in the next few weeks so we should be completely ready by early March.
Pencil commented about the pace of life trying to get ready for the season, “I have been real busy with school, getting the cars ready, and changing tons of diapers the past few months,” he said with a chuckle. "I have to give my wife (Jessica) a lot of credit. I could not do this without her; she has put in "extra hours" watching our son while I try to get things ready for the upcoming season”.
If the above wasn’t hectic enough for Jack, he also referees high school wrestling throughout the winter months. Pencil added, "I ref about two nights a week and most weekends. I travel up to Bald Eagle Area (near State College, PA) High School next week for a match with State College then the next three weeks I have matches at the district, regional, and maybe states level that I will be officiating over; then it is time to go racing."
In addition to running the MACS Series, Jack plans on running at Bedford (PA) every Friday night the Series isn’t in action as well as hitting some big shows at Port Royal (PA), Hagerstown (MD), Hesston (PA), Cumberland (MD), Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway, Challenger (PA), and Winchester (VA).
Jack concluded, “I would not have had the success I have if it were not for my sponsors. They really have helped our program and I hope I have represented them well giving them a return on their investment in Pencil Racing”. Jack’s sponsor’s include: R&L Insulation and Abatement owned by Ron Lundquist, Baker's Body Center, Stoystown Auto Wreckers, Lankey' Sleep Zone, Townsend Gas & Oil, Nationwide Insurance Agent-Robert Wilk, Keller Engineers, American Race Tires, SUNOCO Race Fuels, Simpson Racing Products, and Weld Wheels.
Thank your for your continued support of the Series, host facilities, drivers, and sponsor’s.
Thanks for your continued support and cooperation.
