Steve ‘Showtime’ Shaver Victorious In ‘Harvest 50’ At Skyline Speedway

Stewart, OH (September 22, 2007) Steve Shaver has been very good this season with the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series but has not had much luck to go with his impressive performances. ‘Showtime’ was able to shake some of that bad luck when he led all 50 laps of the ‘Harvest 50’ at the Billy Gerell Motorsports LLC. owned, Skyline Speedway.

It was Steve Lucas and Shaver who brought the star-studded 24-car field to the green with Steve quickly jumping out to the lead going into the first corner. Lucas pushed up the racetrack coming out of turn two opening the door for third starting Dave Hess Jr. to move into second. Shaver led the first three laps with Hess, Lucas, Mike Balzano, and Corey Conley in tow when the first and only caution was displayed when Chris Garnes and Paul Wilmouth Jr. got together in turn three.

When the field was let loose again Steve continued to lead as Conley, Jason Montgomery, and Alex Ferree battled for the fifth spot. The standing-room-only crown was on the edge of their seat watching ‘Hot Rod’ Conley, 2007 MACS Rookie of the Year contender Matt Lux, Doug Drown, and Josh Maguire as they were running three and four wide lap after lap. Maguire, who started 17th after winning one of the two B-Mains, pitted on the lap three caution with a flat tire and had raced his way back into the top ten by lap 16 and was continuing to pick off cars.

The action was hot as the Shaver continued his torrid pace through lapped traffic with Hess right on his rear deck-lid. As Hess pressured Shaver, Maguire was still knifing his way through the field and into the top five on lap 24 with a daring move to go from eighth to fifth in one corner passing Lucas, Montgomery, and Jeff Burdette.

The laps continued to wind down with Shaver still holding point followed by Hess, Balzano, Maguire, and Rob Blair in fifth. Maguire was able to make his way past Balzano in the late stages of the event moving Balzano back to fourth. Hess was never able to make a serious attempt to get by Steve allowing Shaver to take his first MACS checkered flag of the season. Hess was credited with second with Maguire finishing third, Balzano was fourth followed by Blair from 11th. Tim Dohm led the next tier of drivers in sixth with Montgomery in seventh. Jarod Hawkins finished eighth with 20th starting Doug Drown in ninth and Jeff Burdette rounded out the top ten.
