Indiana, PA (March 15, 2008) The Geesey Brothers Mid-Atlantic Championship Series are pleased to congratulate Series Media Liaison and Database Coordinator, Jason Shank for being awarded Lernerville Speedway's 'Bill Steinbach Media Award’ at their annual awards banquet. This award is given in Jason's recognition of his accomplishments within the motorsports press. He joins this prestigious list of award winners; Valley News Dispatch (1994), WISR Radio (‘95), Alan Serena/WIXZ (‘96), WISR Crew (‘97), Bob & Cathy Chorpenning (‘98), Don Gamble (‘99), John Enrietto (2000), D.J. Johnson (‘01), Chris Dolack (‘02), Dan & Linda Fennell (‘03), Jeff Waller & Bob Artzberger (‘04), Paul Kogut/Valley News Dispatch (‘05), (No award given 2006), Tom Zuck and Lou Ruediger (2007).
The presentation was made by Speedway General Manager, Gary Risch Jr. “This guy (Shank) was instrumental with the birth of the ‘Firecracker 100’; the hours he put in helping Lernerville promote the event was insurmountable. Not only is he good at what he does but I also made a pretty good friend,” commented Risch. While accepting the award, Jason appeared quite emotional, “Wow, this is a total surprise,” a shocked Shank said in front of banquet guests. “I need to thank Gary for everything he has done for me; he helped me a lot getting my name out in the racing world and he let me be a part of what will be the next ‘Crown Jewel’ late model event. I’m just…shocked; I don’t know what else to say,” concluded Jason.
Shank has progressed a long way since becoming a columnist at FireOnDirt.com in December of 2001. FireOnDirt.com has since evolved into the very popular Dirt Track Digest.com which Jason now serves as the National Dirt Late Model Editor. While working with Dirt Track Digest, Shank began to make a name for him self throughout the racing industry. In '05 the break Jason was looking for came at MACS' "Triton 50" at Sharon Speedway, Hartford , OH . Jeff Geesey, the Series Public Relations Director and Event Coordinator, was recovering from a surgery and wasn’t able to get around like he normally does. Jeff commented, “At the time our (MACS) database coordinator was in college and Regina (Jeff’s wife and series scorer) was running the computer. Jason gave us a needed helping hand that night and we decided the following season to offer him the position as Database Coordinator.”
In 2006 Jason began his tenure with MACS and today has been asked to take on more responsibility with the Series. In late '06, Shank decided to start his own Motorsports Media and Marketing business called JNJ Motorsports Media. JNJ provides public relations services to drivers such as ‘99 and 2000 MACS Champion Lynn Geisler, ’06 and ’07 MACS Champion Jason Covert, ’03 MACS Rookie of the Year Keith Barbara, ’07 MACS Rookie of the Year Matt Lux, ’07 Pittsburgh ’s PA Motor Speedway Champion Jared Miley, as well as Windber , PA based Edge Racing Engines.
In 2007, along with assisting Gary and Lernerville with promotion of the first annual ‘Firecracker 100’ Shank accepted more responsibility with the Series. Jason was given the additional title of Media Liaison with the MACS and in '08 built the organization new online home at www.macsracing.com. “There have been many people that have helped me become a ‘somebody’ in racing, but Jeff has really been the one that put his faith in me giving me the opportunity to excel in the business I love. I want to thank Jeff for everything he has done for me,” Shank graciously added. Additionally, another key person in Jason's introduction into motorsports is Keith Koval. "Keith Koval is another person that took me under his wing when I got started. He introduced me to pretty much everyone I know; and if it wasn’t for Keith I would have never been introduced to Jeff,” concluded Shank
This season looks to be even more productive for Jason as he continues to work hard at achieving his goal of working in the racing industry full time.
