Drivers Lining Up In Pursuit of MACS Championship for Cumberland And Hesston Openers |

Indiana, PA (March 20, 2008) The Geesey Brothers Mid-Atlantic Championship Series, entering their twelfth season of operation, on Saturday April 12, at “The Rock” Allegany County Speedway, Cumberland, MD and Sunday, April 13, at Hesston Speedway, Hesston, PA are pleased to announce the drivers that have already committed to the 2008 tour.
Thus far these drivers include: two-time, defending Series Champion, Jason Covert, York Haven, PA; ’05 Champion Mike Balzano, Parkersburg, WV, is starting out with the Series; 2007 Lernerville Speedway track Champion, Alex Ferree, Saxonburg, PA is returning full-time; ’07 AlturnaMats® Rookie of the Year Matt Lux, Franklin, PA; 2006 AlturnaMats® ROY, Nick Dickson, Lewistown, PA, is returning to full-time; Chuck Clise, Frostburg, MD is returning for his second consecutive season; and ’02 Champion, The Flyin’ School Teacher, Jack Pencil, Bedford, PA is making another run for the title. The above drivers are in addition to eight AlturnaMats® MACS ROY candidates including Michael Altobelli, Jr. (PA); Thomas Baker (OH); Ron Delano, Jr. (PA); Greg Fetters (PA); Coleby Frye (PA); Donald Lingo, Jr. (DE); Russell King (OH); and Tony Lombardi (OH).
The two-time and defending Series Champion, Jason Covert will enter the 2008 MACS season looking for his third straight Series Championship. “The MACS deal really fits our schedule well,” commented the York Haven, PA wheelman. “All of our guys, including myself, have day jobs and it’s hard to get out on the road for long periods of time. Even at that, the MACS organization is one of if not the best out there and we really enjoy racing with those guys.” Covert finished the 2007 MACS campaign with 4 wins including ‘Ernie Shelton’s USA 100TM’ at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway in Jamaica , VA., and the ‘Glockner Toyota 75’ at the Coleman Family’s Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, OH on his way to his second straight championship.
Former Champions Mike Balzano of Parkersburg , WV and Jack Pencil of Bedford , PA will return in 2008 to attempt to garner their second championships. Balzano looks to start the 2008 season with the tour as Pencil has committed to the full schedule. The 2006 and 2007 Rookie of the Year champions Nick Dickson (’06) and Matt Lux (’07) are also on board for 2008. Dickson from Lewistown , PA and Lux from Franklin , PA are sure to be contenders for the championship crown.
After one of the most dominant years in the 40 year history of the famed Lernerville Speedway, Saxonburg , PA ’s Alex Ferree will again hit the road with the MACS contingent. Ferree picked up nine wins at the Sarver, PA speedway on his way to the track championship. Ferree traveled with the Series in 2005 finishing fifth in the final championship point standings. Also returning to the Series is Frostburg , MD ’s Chuck Clise. Clise entered every MACS event in 2007 finishing the season a very respectable eighth in the season ending standings.
“We are happy with slate of drivers,” stated Jeff Geesey, Series PR Director. “These are the drivers who have made their commitments thus far. Several others have called to inquire, but they have not committed,” concluded Geesey
