Jamaica, VA – Just before the Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) competitors were about to hit the track for AlturnaMats® Time Trials presented by JNJ Motorsports the skies opened up to a deluge of heavy rain that soaked the ½ mile facility. Officials of Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway worked on the track for two hours trying to get the racing surface back, but with more storms on the horizon and a lengthy track drying process still ahead of them the decision was made to cancel Ernie Shelton’s 30th Annual Topless USA 100 presented by the US Army.
“We tried everything in our power to get the track back to racing conditions in a timely manner, but there was just too much water dumped on the racing surface and unfortunately Mother Nature won out this time”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.
“You never want to cancel an event especially one where so many competitors and fans have traveled lengthy distances to come support our facility. We want to thank each one of them for their support,” continued Sawyer.
This is the seventh rainout in the history of Ernie Shelton’s USA 100 and the second rainout of the season for Virginia Motor Speedway. |
